About
Aptly named shopping event, Made In The Shade (a slang phrase, popular in the 1950s and synonymous with guaranteed success, or a truly swell situation) launched in Glasgow in May 2008. Having received a gloriously toasty-warm welcome from Glasgow’s discerning vintage shoppers and handmade lovers, the event quickly doubled in size. The event now plays host to 60+ makers and vintage sellers and continues to take place seasonally at The Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Architecture, Design and the City.
Bringing the crème of the country’s creative crop together, Made In The Shade serves to provide a fun and innovative platform from which to promote to delights of neo-craft, quirky design and vintage lifestyle. Made In The Shade supports fresh design talent and backs the work of independent businesses - all the while encouraging customers to relish in the exclusivity of the handmade and vintage one-of.

The look and feel of Made In The Shade is inspired by the styles, aesthetics and the sounds of yesteryear! As lovers of all things vintage, the event organisers draw from a mish mash of vintage wallpapers, patterns, vocabulary, cultural artefacts and music to bring you a bright, upbeat, unconventional shopping experience right in the heart of Glasgow’s shopping hub!
Integral to the atmosphere of Made In The Shade is the shopping soundtrack. The playlist mashes together a collection of rock’n'roll belters, big band jazz numbers, Rat Pack classics, easy listening crooner tooners, country and western twang and a smattering of quirky little ditties to brighten up your day.
